On June 21, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs stated in a summary of its response to suggestion No. 5786 from the second session of the 14th National People's Congress that synthetic biotechnology is an effective means to increase the supply of alternative resources and reduce the demand for feed soybean meal. The Ministry actively supports the creation of new feed protein resources through synthetic biotechnology. In 2021, it issued the "Guidelines for the Identification of Microbial and Fermented Product Production Strains for Direct Feeding and Their Safety Assessment," which provides detailed requirements for the safety assessment of feed microorganisms and their fermented products developed using synthetic biotechnology, helping enterprises and research institutions to conduct targeted experimental evaluations and prepare application materials. At the same time, it continues to optimize the review process and accelerate the review and approval of related products. In recent years, new feed raw material certificates have been issued for ethanol clostridial protein, methyl capsule ball protein, etc., among which ethanol clostridial protein has achieved an annual production capacity of 25,000 tons.
In the next step, we will continue to optimize and improve the safety assessment requirements for feed microorganisms and their products, simplify the evaluation procedures for related products such as feed amino acids and microbial proteins, and accelerate the research and development of synthetic biotechnology and the approval and market supply of related products. We will support the research and innovation of biomanufacturing technologies for feed soybean meal substitute products and their demonstration applications, helping to enhance the feed conversion efficiency of the aquaculture industry and promote high-quality development of the feed and aquaculture industry with new productive forces.
